As entrepreneurs, we usually regard ourselves as “smart”, or at least “smarter” than our peers.
Don’t look at me like that– you know this, you’ve done this many times.
When we solve certain problems and get paid handsomely for it, we have this pride about the way we do things, which makes us forget how we can be “intellectually vulnerable” in other areas of our lives.
Then one day, we do….STUPID THINGS.
I sat down with 2x Guinness World Record Holder, competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete, Author, and Hypnosis Expert Chris Bolger to discuss this.
Why do smart people do stupid things?
Here are some snippets of this rich convo:
- Chris’s story of going form a celebrated athlete, destined for greatness, and then “hopeless and homeless”
- How he turned his life around in 24 hours (!)
- How “smart people” process the world differently [Hint: it’s not IQ]
- Emotions vs. willpower, what really fuels our decisions?
- How can we get smarter at any age?
- How do we develop unconscious support systems to keep from backsliding to bad habits
- How to deal with depression and anxiety (clue: an important reframe)
- How pattern interrupts BREAK a downward spiral – physical, mental, or emotional
- How we can improve decision-making in business
- 3 things to practice to “get smarter”
This is definitely one of my favorite podcast conversations as I learned a lot in this episode about how to deal with my moods and how to make better decisions. As they say, the only job of a CEO is to make good decisions and I’m here to invest everything I have in that.
