There is no doubt that a diverse art culture is thriving in this lively city. Davao is home to different voices and mediums of creative ideas; literature, graphic arts, music, film, and other artistic initiatives.
This coming August 30, 2014, the Young Davao Writers, the youth wing of the Davao Writers Guild, will be hosting the 5th yearly poetry event, LitOrgy, as litVrgy. The 5th year, depicted as the V in litVrgy (in Roman Numeral), is a brand new experience as this is the first mass-advertised spoken word event. LitOrgy was coined from “Literary” and “Orgy”, which depicts poetry as a fluid and a kinetic experience rather that just some words on a page.
LitOrgy, the Young Davao Writer’s tradition of poetry reading made alive by the culture of readers, poets, fictionists and the like. The tradition started back in March 28, 2008 at Durian Bar, Madrazo Complex with the same dream that the Young Davao Writers still hold to this very day: to put literature in the list of thriving arts in the city, or in the country as a whole. The best way to make a mark would be getting their voices heard, literally.
The 5th LitOrgy pays homage to the sweet sound of the letter V and all thoughts, poetries, and realities through literature it graces itself on. A roster of unique talents from different English related courses from Universities in Davao, aspiring writers and musicians are ready to lay their efforts to keep the spirit of Davao literature alive.
Come for the poetry, stay for the conversations. Saless Tekanplor is located at cor. Saless and Monteverde sts., Davao city. For more details, visit the Facebook’s event page: litVrgy or contact 0942 739 7400 for ticket reservations. See you!
