After my long rant about the controversial Cybercrime Law (RA 10175), I just found out that it was issued a Temporary Restraining order by the Supreme Court. *cue Hallelujiah song*
Currently, the implementation of Republic Act 10175/ Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 IS ON A HALT.
If you ask why, well, the high court justices finally got enough sleep and food because the decision was unanimous–that the Cybercrime Law was unconstitutional on numerous counts. Many petitions were made. Many rallies mounted. Many journalists enraged. It’s about time, don’t you think?
Specific provisions highlighted were on double jeopardy, right to privacy, freedom of speech, illegal searches and seizures, and equal protection of law. Looks like the 1987 Constitution endured a lot of Googling.
Anyway, thank you, Supreme Court. You just made my day. 🙂
