It has been 3 years since my last debate tournament. I must say, the magic is still the same. I dug this old blog entry (via multiply) and found that going to a debate tournament, seeing old and new faces, tackling issues that my now-ordinary days wouldn’t dare touch, was still a transcendental experience.
You have captivated me in ways I never thought imaginable. I traveled so far to be with you, to say goodbye, to finally rest a part of me in the chambers of the deepest of oceans. But I realized, that I could never let you go.
Being with you is an experience that enacts its magic over and over again. You have caught me, once again, and I will return.
You have taught me to be patient, to be more articulate; and you have taught me that the universe stretches farther than school-work-school-work. Moreover, I am thankful that I’ve relearnt, with you, that it doesn’t hurt to be smart and fabulous at the same time. (LOL I can’t believe I said this. Sue me, I was 19.)
My latest getaway with you has also given me the thunders of anger, due to uncontrollable pieces of hard-wired bullshit. But, as I have promised, I will return. I will spin the world to keep things in “natural order”, as how David would put it.
Oh well, embrace it, FEAR IT.
A lot of people ask why I debate and why I can’t leave this world. Even my parents couldn’t understand this. (Good thing I am now earning and didn’t ask registration money from them anymore.) Well, it’s this easy: debate helps me think better. And if I think better, the world gets better. I make better decisions, propose better solutions, and why, it even helps with sharpening my eloquence! 🙂 Debate is the best thing that ever happend to me. No hard feelings please, boyfriend. Seriously, debate is superawesome. Debate is toastmasters on steroids.
To my teammates, I love you. We may have missed the championship this year but look how far we’ve come. Our newbies broke high. Isn’t that a testament of our training quality and sustainability? We dominated the adjudication tabs (6 out of 10 best adjes from AdDU). 4 out of 10 best speakers in Mindanao are from our school. We were also a good-looking bunch. 🙂 I am looking forward to more training rounds, tournaments and Antonov nights with you. <3
AND YOU, 27th MPDC, I shall await you like a loyal seaman’s wife.
