Something New: BonChon in Davao!

July 12, 2012 by karlasingson Leave a Comment

Yes, you read the title right. BonChon, God’s gift to the chicken-eating world, is here in Davao.

A little history here. BonChon, in Korean, means “original village”. From its original home in Korea, BonChon opened branches in New York last 2007 where its unforgettably tasty crispy chicken earned the favor of major media and industry acolades, as well as praise from every fried chicken-loving soul.

The enterprising force behind BonChon Philippines is its young and dynamic managing director, 29-year-old Scott Tan. He shares that his first BonChon experience was so “addictive” that it became a mainstay in his New York itinerary. In November 2010, he opened BonChon’s first branch in the Philippines and now they’re on their 20th store– Davao!

“We are glad to have begun our national expansion with the opening of our first branch outside of the metro. Davao city is thriving and the food industry here is bullish, and we are very proud to be a part of the progressive vibrancy of this beautiful city. We are looking forward to offer something new to Davaoenyos, the same crispy chicken that has made its mark in the international market.” This is a statement from BonChon’s twentysomething visionary, Scott Tan.

Honestly, it was my first time to eat BonChon chicken and my, it was truly life changing. I’ve been a fan of KFC Chicken and Jollibee’s chickenjoy but this one, was a unique flavor bomb. Its flavor is more tailored for the Asian palate, and its sweet and tangy flavor, crispy surface and juicy flesh make every bite timeless.  Aside from the chicken, my personal BonChon faves include their Calamari, Bulgogi (both are only offered here in the Philippines) and Banoffee Sundae. Just recalling that special first-touch afternoon makes me hungry again!

Here in Davao, the local franchise owner is also just on his mid-twenties, Van Vernon Uyking. Darn, I have a few years to catch up!

BTW, the Davao BonChon branch is located at Ground Floor, SM City Davao Annex, Ecoland. Aaaaand if you be a good fella, you get a free P500 GC from this blog! Just comment “I love BonChon Davao!” and you’re good to go for the raffle. Winner will be picked via Rafflecopter. Deadline is on July 25, 2012. That’s about two weeks from now. Tell all your friends! 🙂
