Yesterday, I bumped into some cash. An old account of mine has just reopened and the client paid me his balance. It was really unexpected—we closed the deal 7 months ago—and I just got the payment now. Whew. Anyway, because I was extra happy, I decided to treat myself to some afternoon shopping at SM.
Then suddenly, it hit me– I wanted a hair treatment. I wanted something more nourishing than a hot oil or a hair spa treatment, but I didn’t want it to be as intense as something like a relax or a rebond. Hair care is really a priority for me because I’m in the business of Marketing and PR. Impression matters. God, I couldn’t emphasize more. (Flips hair.)
My budget for a hair care treatment was P200-300. A lot of salons here in Davao could offer a nice hair spa treatment for my budget but then as I strolled through SM’s toiletry section, I couldn’t keep my eyes off L’oreal’s wonderful range of hair care products. I especially lusted over their hair masks.
I nonchalantly picked a piece up and looked at the price tag. It’s P250 for a 200 ml jar. Amazing, isn’t it? It was within the budget. (Widens eyes convincingly.)
So then I reflected—should I go to the salon and get a one-time treatment, or should I just buy their new L’oreal Paris Total Repair Deep Repairing Mask?
Here’s a sneak peek on my thoughts:
If I go to the salon, my P300 would only last for an afternoon, plus, I know that they’re going to use mediocre hair treatment masks anyway. They usually buy these in bulk that the price-per-treatment will just fall to P40 (or even less) and charge for the labor and overhead more. HOWEVER, I will just be sitting there for an hour, flipping through a gossip magazine and enjoying the air conditioning and the smell of hair treatment creams, which I find really relaxing. I closed my eyes and imagine the feeling. It was heaven.
On the other hand, if I buy L’oreal’s hair mask, I could administer the hair treatment at home and I will end up with slick-nice results for my hair because L’oreal is top-of-the-line. Even L’oreal Paris rebonding treatments costs up to 4x the regular ones! The only difference is that, I don’t get the pampering that I usually go for when I am in salons.
Then I asked myself—which was more important to me, to feel pampered, or to get a high-end hair treatment? And then hair treatment won. I am really a fan of L’oreal’s hair treatments. I got a L’oreal at-home revitalizing hair mask treatment when I was in Cebu (Imagine, Cebu! Where pollution is king and if you’re not inside an air conditioned place, your hair might file a civil case against you) and the results were ethereal. It was BETTER than when I got a salon-administered hot oil treatment. Besides, if I really wanted to feel pampered, I could get a foot scrub and massage or go to a spa.
So yeah. You pretty much know what happened next. I went home with a jar of L’oreal Paris Total Repair Deep Repairing Mask and a smile that stretched from scalp to scalp.
