This coming May 6-7, 2016, Davao filmmakers take the center stage again as Visit Davao Fun Sale presents Davao Grand Indie Filmfest.
As a backgrounder, the Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDFS) is one of the grandest tourism campaigns of the Davao region, filled with 10 weeks of non-stop action in one of the best cities in Asia! Sports & adventure, arts & culture, parties, tours, shopping, dining, and relaxation/ wellness deals paint the town red for every summer. For this, the events are classified into three (3): Adventure and Sports, Arts and Culture, and Party, Fun and Leisure.
The VDFS Grand Indie Film Fest is a 2-DAY showcase of indie films from select Davao filmmakers. It is part of the Visit Davao Fun Sale Arts and Culture flagship events. The featured films highlight picturesque Davao sceneries, as well as local culture and language.

ANG PINAKALAMI NA APOL PIE (dir. Chico Christie Pace)
A young man realizes that love is not a one-way street. This humor-laden short was shot within 24-hours using a Smartphone as part of the 24-hour Guerrilla Film-a-thon held in 2014. It was adjudged best film in the film-a-thon.
ANG WIG NI HAPPINESS (dir. Albert Egot)
A vengeful ghost haunts her boyfriend’s alleged lovers, she wants to know is the real identity of happiness, the name of her boyfriend’s fling when she was still alive. This rollicking madcap horror-comedy features Davao City’s top stand-up comedian; it was part of the Mindanao films programmed in the 2014 Cinemarehiyon in Cagayan de Oro City.

PAGSALIG (dir. Keizha Halili)
Winner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Sulyap Kultura Award in the 2015 Mindanao Film Festival. The short film set in the scenic Talikud Island in Davao del Norte tells the story of a reluctant young man tasked to continue his family’s tradition.
PASUON (dir. Bryan Jimenez)
In a bucolic countryside, a bird hunter discovers gold, it won’t be long when greed would unravel his secret. It was adjudged as BEST FILM in the 2014 Mindanao Film Festival. It also represented the Philippines in the 32nd International Festival Sarajevo in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzogovina.
BADJANG ( dir. William Resma Ranara)
A remarkable story of how a boy gets his revenge against a bunch of school bullies. Aside from winning Best Film in the 2013 Nabunturan Independent Film Exchange (Nabifilmex), Badjang also got awards for best actor, best editing and best cinematography.
DANGATAN (dir. Anju de Vera)
Winner of the Best Actress award (for Mae Bornilo) and Honorable Mention in the 11th the Mindanao Film Festival. Dangatan straddles the tale of two women in their quest for empowerment.
HALIN (dir. Ronald Gary Bautista)
An online transaction goes awry in this suspense thriller which won best cinematography and best production value in the 2013 Mindanao Film Festival.
