So yes, first question: do you seriously think you are cleaning your face properly? If you still have unwanted marks, blemishes or if you think your skin is too oily or too dry, then there’s something you’re doing wrong. At first bat, you might not get the right combo for the picture-perfect skin that you want. However, with a few tried and tested tips, you might be heading nearer to the perfect texture, the perfect complexion, and the perfect look. Ready?
The Right Products
First off, you have to know if your skin is dry, normal, oily, or acne prone. Buy products according to your skin type. Pick the gentlest ones, made of natural, organic, non comedogenic and hypoallergenic ingredients. If you have a product that works for you for a long time already and you don’t see any more improvements, it’s time to ditch it and be on the lookout for a new product. Foam is always better than soap, and remember to rinse properly. Also, use the same criteria for your makeup remover. Use makeup remover whenever you use more makeup than usual, perhaps for a special evening event or something similar.
The Regular Intensive Cleansing
When you find the right facial wash for you, know that daily cleansing might not be enough. Depending on the frequency of your blemishes, and depending on the problems that you want addressed, get a regular facial. For me, regular is only twice a year. For most, regular is monthly. I know I will need more as the years pass, but we’ll cross the bridge when we get there. A facial is important to get rid of the deep-seated dirt that regular washing cannot fix. A facial also helps in making your pores look better, and making the complexion look more even. There are also special facials designed for certain problems. There are anti-aging facials, anti-acne facials, cooling facials and whitening facials. I like the anti-aging ones, then I add on a mask at the end.
When Laziness Pays a Visit
There will be times when you will not have time to wash your face at night. Trust me, I’m an event coordinator and sometimes long days really destroy our beauty rituals. Keep antibacterial wet wipes handy, so at least you can wipe off some of the dirt and makeup residue. When you wake up in the middle of the night, perhaps you can finally wash your face or wipe a second time for a cleaner morning face. When you wake up in the morning, washing your face should be the first task on your list, and scrub longer than you are used to.
Protect and Heal
Lastly, to say that you really care about your skin, you have to protect it and heal it. During the day, wear a product with at least SPF 20. It can be a moisturizer, a BB cream, a powder or a foundation. During the night, use a rejuvenating cream after you wash your face and let the cream sit until the morning. Use products with collagen or Q10 if you are going to the anti-aging route. These products will complement the cleansing that you do, and it will also preserve your skin’s natural health by delaying aging and preventing other skin problems from resurfacing.
See, you might not be as pretty as you want to be but if you have clean and clear skin, you can always put on light makeup and get a haircut that suits your face shape. Trust me, with those, you’ll look at least 300 % better.
