The new iPhone came out last month. With that, of course, came excited Apple cult followers, Apple bashers, wanna be tech analysts, social climbers who started scraping the bottom of their bank accounts, and indifferent people who are already happy with their mid-range Samsung or the low-end but super durable Nokia.
If you kinda love it and you feel like you want to jump on the bandwagon, let me remind you, the price tag that came with this “it” phone is a hefty one for the regular working Filipino. Here are the numbers: P33,600 for the 16GB, P38,780 for the 64GB and P43,950 for the 128GB iPhone 6. Pretty hefty, huh?
However, if you have hundreds of thousands or millions sitting around and feel that you truly need it in your life, don’t let me stop you. Go buy that phone, pop a champagne bottle, take selfies and sleep with it at night. But before that, take a look at this list and think of the OTHER things your P33,600 could get you:

1. Out-of-the-Country Vacation
When was the last time you went on an out of country vacation? For that amount, you can go to Vietnam, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Singapore and enjoy a fun-filled weekend there. If you’re lucky, you can score cheap sale flights and even take your partner with you! A vacation somewhere new will change and expand your worldview. Spend for experience, memories that will last you a lifetime. That phone is designed towards obsolescence anyway. You know that.

2. Home Gym Set
Get two sets of full gym clothes, cross training shoes, weight plates, dumbbells, an exercise ball, a yoga mat, an elliptical machine, treadmill and a bench press set. And these prices are for brand new so you can get more with prior-owned stuff. Instead of going to the gym, you can work out at home while you watch your favorite series. Invest in fitness! Save on memberships, gas, time, and have something you can share with the rest of your family.

3. Your Power Dressing Set
If you’re a career woman and you’re at the point of your life when you feel like you need that phone to augment your social status, why not spend on a jewelry set instead? Buy a set of white or yellow gold earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, pearls and ring. Throw in a few precious stones and you’re good to go. All pieces are timeless and their prices increase in time. If you’re a guy, you can get a dressy watch, two premium quality long sleeves, two polo shirts, two pairs of slacks, two pairs jeans and a pair of leather shoes for that. Ready to hit the mall?

4. New Set of Skills
Go to workshops, bootcamps, buy books, apt outfits and go out of your comfort zone for once. Whether it’s baking, surfing, photography or Krav Maga, why don’t you surprise yourself and learn a new set of skills and take it seriously. A lot of programs issue certifications that look really good on the resume. Who knows, this can even turn into an earning opportunity or unlock a hidden talent. Use your P33,600 as initial investment on the best asset ever: yourself.

5. Stock Market Investing
Ever thought of putting your money somewhere it can grow? Ever dream of investing in stock market but you’re afraid to? Read up about it and ask your expert friends. Turns out, with the help of the internet, stock market investing is quite easy and it’s a better way to grow your cash rather than just park it in the bank.
Apple fans, I’m not saying the iPhone 6 is not worth your money. I’m just presenting other options for people who only have THAT money to spare. Actually if you can afford it, you can still do all five options AND buy that iPhone 6! Here’s just another opportunity to rethink our purchases. You’re welcome.
