This coming February 16, 2013, at Kanto Bar, MTS, 6PM, Davao celebrates art month through a yearly art festival, Taboan.
Taboan is a simultaneous art festival that’s happening at Dumaguete, Digos and Cagayan de Oro city, along with Davao city. This year’s Taboan is organized by the Young Davao Writers, the youth wing of the Davao Writers Guild and supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
The theme for Taboan 2013 is “Love, Loss and Libido”, an idea offspring from the fact that the event date is just a hiccup after Valentine’s day, love’s biggest, cheesiest, most expensive and mostly overrated holiday. After the main performances, an Open Mic will be held so ANYONE can just read their own works on the stage. I’ll go first, promise! Just give me 3 bottles of beer, a mask and I’m good to go. Haha! Come on, don’t be shy!
Here are the list of performers for Taboan 2013:
SPOKEN WORD/ PERFORMANCE POETRY
Rowena Rose Lee
Michael Angelo Marquez
Chuck Fournier (also spoken word poetry collaborator)
As one of the main organizers of Taboan 2013 (and other poetry nights), it is my deepest desire to keep literature alive and relevant in the Davao art scene. I may not have a huge ass writing award or title but boy, Poetry, “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.” Yes, that was a line from Oasis’ Wonderwall. I don’t even know why I said that. Anyway..
I don’t want people to forget that good songs were once good poems, and good movies come from a script, a set of words set upon paper (or a computer screen), a set of thoughts arrested in flight.
Come celebrate TABOAN 2013 with us. Don’t worry, ADMISSION IS TOTALLY FREE! See you and share this to all your friends. Keep the Davao art scene alive! 🙂
